Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. These brothers know what they’re doing and lets all be thankful they are directing Infinity Wars, I have high hopes for those 2 films. Anyway I digress…..
Civil War is the 3rd Captain America film but it’s almost an Avengers sequel
This film is 2 and a half hours but it flew by for me.
First off, the screenwriting here was spot on. You can really understand the driving force behind each character and why they make the decisions they make. The 2 main characters obviously should be good but a film is only as good as its villain and I felt for Zemo
The Stunt team also need a mention, they earned their money on this film as the in-camera stunts were as good as they could have been and they were almost non stop.
A big shout must go to Tom Holland who plays Spiderman how refreshing to actually have a teenager playing a teenage hero and again a great script for him expertly delivered.
Chadwick Boseman, you sir are a bad ass and I now am looking forward to the Black Panther stand alone movie but Antman stole the show for me, well done Paul Rudd.
The amount of different sets in this film is almost too many to keep track of but it is just managed well enough.
No spoilers but if you’ve seen the trailers you’ll know of the scene. The airport battle made me so happy to watch 12 heroes fighting each other. 15 years ago who would have thought we would see our favourites comic heroes on the big screen like this? comic book fans are blessed.
For me this film is up there with The Winter Soldier (possibly surpassing it) I try not to be a marvel fanboy which anyone who knows me knows that is a tough ask. I see faults in some of the films and some are just plain bad but they have had a lot of practise at getting these films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe right (8 years and 13 films) and
NAILED IT
Thunderous Applause!!
No film is perfect but a super hero film that would stand up as a great film if you took the heroes out of it has got to be pretty close and that is what the last 2 Captain America films do. A great spy/espionage film followed by a Manchurian Candidate style thriller.
Well played Russo brothers, you have my money for life.
