War For The Planet of the Apes
If you liked the first 2 of this rebooted series you’ll enjoy this outing too.
Matt Reeves back as writer/director for his 2nd Ape film after he directed the last one Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
It’s not action heavy as the title suggests but there was enough to keep me interested and when it did happen it had me hooked.
Where the film really shines for me is the screenplay firstly. I believed every word that the characters said, motivations clear and story arcs well defined. 2nd was the motion capture of the apes and the locations. It was a stunning looking film and the black and brown apes in the backdrop of snowy mountains looked very very cool . We all know that Andy Serkis knows his stuff and I always expect a top performance from him (he didn’t disappoint) but the others were just as good too. Steve Zahn as bad ape needing a mention. Woody Harrelson giving his usual ott bad guy turn but against the very matter of fact ape dialogue it seemed to work.
It has the right amount of feels too, again made more believable by the acting of this fine cast.
All in all a great end to a brilliantly well thought out and executed trilogy in my (not so humble opinion)
Also Matt Reeves directing The Batman movie paired with the awesomeness of Wonder Woman excites me for the future of the DCEU
